Dr Peter Spayne speaks and lectures regularly on artificial intelligence, autonomy and assurance, to academic, defence, industry and policy audiences.
He is a guest lecturer on AI and autonomous systems assurance at universities including York, Hull, Portsmouth and Cranfield, and to specially assembled livery groups and industry partners. His research has been presented across a significant circuit of talks and conference proceedings, including at GCREAIM, the Ukrainian Embassy, the University of Southern Denmark (AUTONORMS and HUMECH), York's Institute for Safe Autonomy, DSTL, DAIC and a number of international conferences. The paper Autonomy is the Answer, What Was the Question? received the IMechE Patron's Prize at INEC24.
He has contributed as an expert witness on artificial intelligence in weapons systems to House of Lords select committees, and takes part in international, ministerial-level discussions on the governance, assurance and responsible use of military AI.
He has appeared across TV, radio and industry podcasts, and has been published in Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence outlets including UKNEST, The Greenie and The Naval Review. And, on the right occasion, an after-dinner talk about killer robots.
